Harts to
open new
El Pastor Soho

This June will see Harts Group launch El Pastor Soho at the former HIX site in Brewer Street.

Finding a Soho site for Harts’ small group of Mexican taquerias has been a long-held goal for founders, Sam and James Hart and Crispin Somerville. They had originally looked at Soho before settling on London Bridge for the first El Pastor which launched in 2016.

Sam Hart says: “Soho is our spiritual home in many ways. It’s where Fino launched, it’s where we have Barrafina and Quo Vadis, and James, Crispin and I spent many long, happy evenings in HIX Soho under Mark’s stewardship. We plan to do justice to the legacy of this special, magnetic site with El Pastor Soho and create wonderful experiences for 2021 and beyond”.

Advised by Colliers, the Universities Superannuation Fund completed the letting of the 5,000 sq ft restaurant in November of last year. Josh Leon, Head of Colliers’ London Restaurant team comments: “Harts Group impressed the landlord with their great track record and a clear willingness to perform”.

The property provides 86 covers on the ground floor and a further 60 on the lower ground floor which will be styled as ‘Mezcaleria El Colmillo,’ named after the nightclub Sam and Crispin ran in the 1990s and Noughties in Mexico City. There will be a musical programme with a broad church of genres, encompassing Latin American, electronica and “whatever else feels right”.
